Vanuatu — planem gud famili blong yumi
-
Planem gud famili blong yumi is implemented in partnership with the Vanuatu Family Health Association (VFHA). It is funded by Aotearoa's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
-
Planem gud famili blong yumi aims to reduce the rates of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmissible infection (STI) among Ni-Vanuatu — the indigenous peoples of Vanuatu. Planem gud famili blong yumi is active in these rural regions of Vanuatu:
- North Santo
- Torres
- Gaua
- South Pentecost
Historically, Vanuatu has had high fertility rates — recent decades have seen fertility drop. There is a high youth population in Vanuatu. People are dispersed across a number of islands — creating access and distribution challenges in rural locations.
Planem gud famili blong yumi aims to improve sexual and reproductive health and rights in Vanuatu by:- Delivering clinical training programmes to VFHA nurses and clinicians — improving service delivery
- Delivering outreach sexual health clinics directly in communities of need — lowering barriers to sexual and reproductive health service access
- Developing and implementing plans to raise awareness about sexual and reproductive health and rights — for example: distributing sexual health information at sports tournaments
- Raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health amongst community leaders — improving support from leadership to community
- Advocating for change from political and community leaders
