Intrauterine Contraception (IUC) Theory 2024

  • Essential pre-requisite course for NZ registered nurses, midwives and doctors wanting to gain competence in Intrauterine Contraception (IUC) insertion and removal.

    • Course description

      To ensure health professionals have a ‘whole of contraception’ understanding and toolkit for best practice counselling, Intrauterine Contraception (IUC) insertion and removal training is delivered as blended learning and includes this online IUC insertion and removal theory course and  face to face practical training to achieve competence.

      This online training comprises 4 modules and each module will cover topics relevant to IUC insertion and removal.  The course assumes the pre-requisite Contraceptive Counselling course has been completed.  A certificate of completion will be issued on completion of the online training.

      Learners must complete and pass both the online theory course and practical training in order to gain competence in IUC insertion and removal.

      Practical training information:

      While the National Contraception Training Service (NCTS) LARC Practical Training and Assessment is no longer available, Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa is in the process of establishing a fee-paying LARC training programme which will be available in 2024. If you are a registered health professional interested in completing our fee-paying LARC practical training in 2024, please email ptdadmin@sexualwellbeing.org.nz to be added to the waitlist. 

      *Note that the exact structure and cost of this programme is yet to be confirmed.

    • Prerequisites

      To be eligible for this training course, you must:

      • Have successfully completed Contraceptive Counselling online course
      • Hold current registration with the NZ Medical Council, NZ Nursing Council or NZ Midwifery Council
      • Hold current Indemnity insurance
