Investment in Pacific SRHR welcomed

Thursday, September 8, 2022

International News

Family Planning chief executive Jackie Edmond has welcomed the announcement by Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta of a further $30 million investment over 5 years for sexual and reproductive health services in the Pacific.

“It is easy for sexual and reproductive health to be overlooked when we think about development,” Ms Edmond says. “In reality, universal access to sexual and reproductive health services is essential for realising sustainable development and for achieving gender equality – ensuring girls and women can participate fully in their communities and have choice about the way they live their lives.”

“This funding decision confirms the Government’s stated commitment to empowering women in the Pacific to lead independent and self-determining lives. As a provider of sexual and reproductive health services domestically and as a partner organisation to colleagues across the Pacific, it’s a commitment we fully support.”
