Commitment to women's health strategy welcomed

Thursday, April 14, 2022

National News

Family Planning welcomes the Government’s commitment to a women’s health strategy. A women’s health strategy will provide leadership, direction, and accountability for improving women’s health outcomes.

A women’s health strategy was one of nine recommendations Family Planning made in its submission on the Pae Ora Healthy Futures Bill.

Family Planning believes a women’s health strategy has the potential to address the historic marginalisation of women’s health issues in the health system, and the range of factors impacting women’s health and wellbeing including sexual violence, intimate partner violence, gender inequity. Wāhine Māori, Pacific women and girls, and women and girls with a disability are disproportionately impacted and should be a priority.

Family Planning looks forward to contributing to the development of a women’s health strategy to improve equitable outcomes for women and girls.
