The US Supreme Court has backed abortion rights, after striking down a law that would have made abortion near impossible to access in the state of Texas.
The Supreme Court ruled against the law on Monday, saying it would violate a woman’s constitutional right to access an abortion.
The law is commonly called a TRAP law – targeted regulations aimed at abortion providers – which are designed to make it difficult for clinics to remain open, under the pretext of protecting women.
This includes requiring abortion providers to have hospital admitting rights and for clinics to meet hospital-like building standards.
This is a landmark case for reproductive rights, and could lead to further change to abortion laws across the US.
