We believe that women must be able to use highly-effective contraception and that cost shouldn’t stop them having this choice.
“We want women to be able to choose the contraceptive that is best for them and their stage of life. We know that removing cost removes a barrier to women being able to chose the most effective contraception,” our chief executive Jackie Edmond says.
Ms Edmond says a recent example of how removing cost increases choice came when the Jadelle implant became subsidised in August 2010 – a change that made it available at no or very low cost for women.
In the year prior to this our doctors and nurses provided the implant to 275 women – in the year following close to 3500 women chose an implant and this year we’re on track to provide 4,000 of these highly-effective devices.
“Removing cost makes contraception much more accessible. And, helping to remove cost is why we’re asking our members and supporters to get in behind our campaign to make long-acting reversible contraception available for all women who chose to use it,” Ms Edmond says.
“Our members and supporters generously supported our campaign to provide implants prior to them becoming subsidised – and we know that made a real difference in women’s lives. We’re sure they’ll be keen to support us again. To help us offer women a real contraceptive choice.”
