Our Supporters
Family Planning would like to acknowledge and thank the following trusts, foundations and businesses who have made a substantial contribution towards our work.
In December 2008 the ASB Community Trust granted $10,000 towards our work with people with disabilities in the Auckland and Northland areas.
The resulting booklet, 'All About Growing Up', is a much needed information source for young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Designed to be worked through with a parent, teacher or caregiver, it can be used to help them learn about the changes they will experience as a result of reaching puberty.
The book's popularity in the Auckland and Northland region led Family Planning to seek additional funding to make it available nationwide and this has recently been granted by the IHC Foundation (see below).
Deaf Development Fund
In October 2008 the Deaf Development Fund granted $10,000 towards the production of a DVD resource to be used by the Deaf community. The DVD, which uses New Zealand Sign Language, contains information:
· Promoting positive sexual decision-making by young Deaf men and women.
· Promoting awareness of healthy relationships and what constitutes unhealthy or violent behaviour in intimate relationships.
· Promoting access to service and the use of contraception and condoms to protect against unintended pregnancy and STIs.
This DVD can be viewed on out youth website The Word.
In early 2010 the IHC Foundation granted $25,000 to enable us to reprint two booklets for young people living with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
'All About Growing Up' provides accurate information, for young people aged 8 and older, about pubertal change and the emotional, physical and social aspects of puberty; 'Safe Relationships, Safer Sex' is designed for a slightly older audience and covers personal and private body parts, places, behaviours, relationship types and Safer Sex.
Both booklets contain accurate information in an easy to understand format and were developed with considerable input from young people, their parents, teachers and other disability providers.

In April 2009 the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board granted $67,753 so that we could continue our Open and Honest programmes for parents in the Waikato and Canterbury regions.
The programme consists of workshops, public information displays, and the distribution of the Open and Honest booklet which gives parents the skills and confidence to speak to their children open and honestly about sex and sexuality.
Family Planning enjoys substantial support from Telecom through their Community Connection programme. In addition to a sponsorship credit across our telecommunication and ICT services, we have also been able to redevelop our main Family Planning website and have recently upgraded our youth site, The Word, through special annual grants.
In August 2009
we received $28,688 from the Todd Foundation to translate and print our New Dads booklet into four languages.
New Dads, which helps to prepare dads-to –be for their new role, has been an extremely popular resource in English.
Through our work with community groups working with speakers of other languages, eg refugee and migrant support groups and multi-cultural services, it became clear that the information in New Dads would be extremely useful to them.
The most frequently requested languages were Arabic, Chinese, Hindi and Maōri and we thank the Todd Foundation for making this possible.
