1990

 

In 1990, Te Puawai Tapu (the sacred blossom) was formed. Te Puawai Tapu is an independent organisation that works to improve Maori sexual and reproductive health.

In 1993, Family Planning central funding ceased after health sector reforms. Instead functioning was through contracts with four regional health authorities and the Public Health Commission.

In 1996, Health Minister Jenny Shipley announced a package to improve sexual and reproductive health services. This included the objectives of improving access to contraceptive information and products, and reducing cost barriers to contraceptive use.
